In January 2006 we wrote a project proposal on Artificial Creativity for IWT, the Institute for the Promotion of Innovation by Science and Technology in Flanders. The proposal was accepted and IWT has now granted us full fundings for two years of research. The project will result in a new application called Gravital, a NodeBox spin-off. Development for Gravital has officially started as of January 2007.

What is Gravital?

Gravital is an environment that links language to AI to design. Like NodeBox, you will be able to create visuals using simple Python code, but also using natural language (e.g. plain English) or a slick node-based interface. It will have built-in support for lots of innovative and productive things like genetic algorithms and machine learning, data-mining, client-server architecture, social networks and version control, etc.

The project is hosted by the St. Lucas School of Arts in Antwerp, Belgium and will be developed in collaboration with the Computational Linguistics group at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, and a consortium of thirteen Belgian companies (ranging from small design studios to large IT-companies and print-houses).

Some parts of Gravital will be open-source - and some parts won't as they involve some more advanced technology.
